How the Super Doofers SuDS System Works

The system is designed to enforce the SuDS hierarchy automatically, rather than simply providing several possible routes for rainwater.

Rainwater entering the system is first directed to the soil and planted growing medium, where it can be absorbed, retained and used by the plants.

When the soil medium reaches the point where it cannot accept further rainwater, the first Super Doofers diverter automatically allows the excess flow to continue to the second diverter and the attenuation layer below.

The attenuation layer temporarily stores this excess water and can release it slowly back to the drainage system, helping restore storage capacity for the next rainfall event.

Why the hierarchy matters

Some arrangements can provide an overflow from the soil directly towards the drainage system once the growing medium becomes saturated. Depending on their design, this can mean that available attenuation storage is not necessarily used before water reaches the final drainage route.

The Super Doofers system is designed differently.

It establishes a defined sequence:

1. Soil and plants → 2. Attenuation → 3. Final discharge

If the soil cannot accept more water, the system doesn’t simply bypass the attenuation stage. Excess water is made available to attenuation before final discharge.

And there’s another important part: the hierarchy automatically resets.

If the soil later regains capacity through infiltration, drainage, evaporation or plant uptake, subsequent rainwater is once again given priority to the soil. It doesn’t remain permanently switched to attenuation.

So the system isn’t simply following the hierarchy once — it continually enforces it as available capacity changes.
